Beijing Forestry University (BFU) celebrated the opening of the Research Institute of Ecological Protection and High-quality Development of the Yellow River Basin, a center to conduct research into the protection and development of the Yellow River basin, on Oct 18, 2013. President An Lizhe, Party Secretary Wang Hongyuan, Professor Shen Guofang, Peng Youdong, an official from China’s Forestry and Grassland Bureau, inaugurated the institute.
BFU News—The Sino-France Joint Laboratory for Invasive Forest Pests in Eurasia, jointly established by Beijing Forestry University and the French National Institute for Agricultural Research, held the 2019 Symposium from Nov. 18 to 19 in BFU. The symposium was supported by Science and Technology Office of French Embassy in China, Beijing Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs and Double First-Class Discipline Construction Project of Beijing Forestry University.
The “Innovative Sustainable Forest Management Education in the Asia-Pacific Region” program, led by BFU and University of British Colombia (UBC), won the “Global Forestry Education Best Practice Award” at the just-concluded IUFRO 2019 XXV World Congress. This program is sponsored by APFNet (Asia-Pacific Network for Sustainable Forest Management). University of Melbourne, University of the Philippines and other major forestry institutions in the Asia Pacific Region also participated in the program. Representatives from BFU and UBC, together with representatives from APFNet, attended the award ceremony held on October 2.
Four new Eucommia ulmoides triploid cultivars, “Jingzhong No. 1”, “Jingzhong No. 2”, “Jingzhong No. 3” and “Jingzhong No. 4”, developed by Professor Kang Xiangyang’s research team from Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Tree Breeding by Molecular Design of Beijing Forestry University, have been recently granted Right Certificate for New Varieties of Plants by the State Forestry Administration. Together with “Jingzhong No. 5”, “Jingzhong No. 6”, “Jingzhong No. 7” and “Jingzhong No. 8” authorized in 2018, eight triploid cultivars of Eucommia ulmoides have received the national certificates. Dr. Li Yun, a postdoctoral researcher of the Innovation Center, is the leading breeder of these new varieties.
